A closer look at the geometric patterns in which Appugliese has enclosed the body of his model sends a shiver through the viewer. The pores of the skin seem to tremble beneath the light as it explores them through rigid masks of lines and squares.

At first glance, the image appears as an abstract weave of light and shadow; then, through its intricate pattern, sinuous anatomical forms begin to emerge, creating an ambiguous interplay between geometry and life. The outlines of the grids blur and vibrate, reverberating across the skin and allowing its warmth to surface. The rigidity of geometry thus gives way to undulating rhythms and dynamic, vital curves.

This work reveals Appugliese’s masterful control of light, filtered through intricate, small-scale masks designed and constructed by the artist himself.
