Eclissi

The Eclissi photo collection documents an important aspect of Marco Appugliese's artistic research and consists of a series of black and white female nudes here presented through accurate contrasts between light and dark. The author has been focusing his work on this theme for more than 15 years. His study – started with the Donnaluna album and carried on with Ombre di luce – is a graceful tribute to the female universe that he approaches discreetly and with a fascinated eye by revealing the harmony of body shapes, movements and poses. The faces here portrayed are purposely "without a visage", thus allowing every woman to see a reflection of her beauty and femininity in those unknown appearances. The light dominates the scene completely and the settings are remote and evanescent, far away from any spatial and temporal dimension. Lights and shadows outline volumes from a very dark background where clear silhouettes take form through clear flashes or reduced backlights. The subjects of this series of photos are quite often everyday women, and sometimes models, actresses or dancers.
All photos have been printed and taken with black and white film by the author himself by using the traditional method based on resin-coated paper.
