Silhouettes

The Silhouettes of this collection are backlight pictures of suggestive visual impact. The shooting technique, which is quite simple, enables the author to pull out two-dimensional and compact sharp profiles from a white background. Under the sensitive photographer's eyes the woman body appears as a flexible shape that can create games of lines and surface contrasts. The clear contours outline sharp and linear profiles that give life to special, and sometimes abstract, graphical effects. The photos here presented have been taken with black and withe film and then printed on the copy paper by the author himself through the traditional process, but they can be also shot by using the digital technique and the color film. Actually Appugliese doesn't rely on the standard technology recommended in manuals to get the silhouette effect, but uses a personal lighting method which consists of optical tools he has designed and then built. Thus, the results here displayed are definitely original and unique.
